At the center of the story is the strong friendship of Vasilisa Dragomir, a Moroi princess and Rose Hathaway, one of the best Dhampir guardians.

Moroi are benevolent vampires that deal in elemental magic and are of the highest class in the vampire world hierarchy. Dhampirs are hybrids, the guardians who protect the royal Moroi from any threat and mainly Strigoi, the rogue vampires.

Lissa and Rose‘s dynamics is intriguing from the beginning which takes up the center seat of the story. What makes vampire academy a fantastic show are the developed & intriguing characters, chemistry between the love interests, eye-turning plots and formidable villains.

Synopsis

Vasilisa Dragomir, a royal Moroi princess, is set upon exploring the world with her best friend and Dhampir guardian, Rose Hathaway, soon after graduating from the Vampire Academy. With her elder brother Andre’s destiny fixed on being the king of the royal Dragomir throne, Lissa has never had any interest in the throne or the political hierarchy of her world.

Her world turns upside down when a tragic accident leaves her brother and her much loving parents dead and her duty as next in line to the Dragomir throne. With the turn of events, Lissa now no longer has the privilege of staying in the bubble of her joyful world with Rose and has to navigate the dark events that she is bound to encounter along with the burden of her own elemental power.

Captivating Vasilisa Dragomir

Form the start, the beautiful and captivating, Lissa‘s catches the eye of the viewers. Rather than let Rose take up all the center stage in the show, like in the books, here Lissa has her own character arc and interesting development just waiting to happen.

Carefree, innocent and vicarious princess, she has no interest in politics or a high position in the royal world. Lissa is down-to-earth and low-key. She treats all her friends humbly irrespective of their social class.

Pushed into a world and duty she did not wish for, the show makes up an intriguing arc for her as she slowly learns to tread the deep waters on her own, find a consuming love in an unexpected place and discover the extent of her rare powerful elemental power which makes her the most strongest in the show. It is most interesting to see her come in terms with the realization of her full potential in the series.

Developed Character Christian Ozera

Christian Ozera‘s character was really well done in the show, with his strong fire element power, a backstory clouded with suspense & tragedy, and a fine tuned character arc.

Setting him apart from rest of the characters with his open mind and curiosity to understand the Strigoi and his world, Christian brings a fresh perspective to viewers every time a turn takes in the story.

It’s through him viewers are enlightened more about the dark conflicting nature of the Strigoi and the vast potential of Lissa Dragomir‘s elemental powers.

The Terrifying Strigoi

Yes I know Rose and Dimitri’s sparking chemistry does make up the top reasons. But we definitely cannot side track the conniving and terrifying Strigoi, the big bad of the show.

The show has done a marvelous job in portraying the Strigoi. From the beginning, their appearance was kept mysterious and intriguing. Showing us just the glimpses of them as feral monsters.

And then revealing the mind-bowling climax of their cruel, vindictive & calculating nature made our fear far more perfect.

Sonya Karp’s Character Arc

Sonya Karp has a better character twist, slowing allowing us to see her descent into darkness because of her weighing elemental power.

Understanding the causes and the turn of events that descends her into the darkness, can easily make us sympathize with her.

With no one to guide her genuinely or make her realize the gravity of her powers or help save the life of the one person that was keeping the light inside her alive, it’s not surprising when finally we get to see her become that which Moroi most fear.

Rose and Dimitri’s Heated Chemistry

Two headstrong personalities! Rose and Dimitri‘s banter & passion is hot in the show. Sparks fly every time they collide and the two can’t keep their hands off each other because of their feisty banter and fights.

Dimitri is an excellent Dhampir fighter yet he lets himself be beaten, than ever hurt her. Rose embodies a freedom that Dimitri‘s never been able to achieve or understand, which pulls him to her uncontrollably. Their love is angsty, feisty and hot literally.
