While the long-awaited news of Sanditon, most loved period drama, coming back for season 3 has thrilled us, let’s reminisce what had hooked us to it for so long.

Sanditon, the masterpiece inspired by Jane Austen‘s unfinished last novel, attracted us with it’s intriguing characters, and the feel-good seaside setting as the center of their world.

Let’s deduce the engaging reasons why Sanditon hooked fans:

Awesome complex heroine Charlotte Heywood

The undeniable star of Sanditon! Charlotte took us all on a dreamy adventure through her innocent wide-eyes, (and beautiful smile) when she first arrived at Sanditon.

Jane Austen’s heroines are all amazing, but Charlotte stands out uniquely! From the start when we got introduced to Charlotte, her character piped up interest.

A spirited farmer’s daughter, a wonder always accompanied her everywhere as she explored her new world.

Strong-minded, kind, brave, Charlotte has a fierce spirit. She could face anything on her own. That strength is what allows her to continue her journey after season one’s heart aching ending.

Curious and an avid book reader, Charlotte surprised viewers constantly with unexpected facets of herself.

When she tended to Mr.’s injury, her resilience was an unexpected delight. She surprised Mr. Parker when she came up with brilliant ideas for the resort plan. Her spirit while playing a match as the only woman among men, was amazing and we could not help cheer for her.

Charlotte’s journey was far from perfect, as she realized her naivety in understanding people. This trait made her so relatable. She is a woman with flaws, on her way to discovering herself and that makes her such a beautiful heroine.

Whether it was her being receptive to learnings or vulnerable in love or passionate about her dreams, she delights audience more and more.

Rose Williams could not have been more suited for the role!

Oh.. the dreamy seaside town and spirited community

Sanditon‘ s beauty lied in the exotic seaside views, treating us to picturesque delight. It stood apart in it’s aesthetic comparison to other period dramas with it’s lavish palaces and décor. The settings of the sea, the cliffs, brought a refreshing feeling in it’s own way to us.

Did I mention the diverse layered characters in the community? Their gatherings and moments of joy like the vibrant ballroom dances and playful water sports kept adding to our desire of watching them more and more.

Passionate chemistry between the love interests

In season 1, Charlotte and Sidney‘s encounters were full of headstrong banter. Sidney was intensely stubborn and Charlotte strongly opiniated. Kept us hooked for one of them to drop the guard down anytime, and their passionate longing to begin.

What added a good mix to this is the second love interest, Stringer. Opposite to Sidney, he was warm and sweet. His interest in Charlotte was sparked by her spontaneous novelty and passion.

Alexander as a love interest for Charlotte was potentially good in season 2. While they did have their intense romantic moments, some of us felt their story needed more time to blossom. And Sidney was not a character to be forgotten easily too. It was a bittersweet conflict as to who should end up as Charlotte’s love match.

Not to forget the other awesome couples we had the pleasure of watching in Sanditon.

Though Sanditon made fans yearn for season 3 after it’s bittersweet ending to Charlotte‘s journey in season 2, it took us on an adventurous retreat and compelling ride.
