The show has diverse characters and storylines that any viewer can relate and identify with. 

Kristy is the strong-minded leader but she has unresolved issues of her absent dad. Unique Claudia wants to find her own way, but feels the weight of her parents different expectations. Mary-Anne is studious and mature but socially awkward and low self-esteemed. Stacey, the trendy, classy girl has her health issues and feels powerless.

2. Coming of age story

The show does an excellent job of showing how the characters find their place in their own way. They do not pretend to be someone they are not. Rather they bring their own unique strengths to the table. 

Claudia offers her artsy talent. Dawn comes up with fresh revolutionary ideas. While Kristy makes best decisions as a leader, Mary-Anne offers wise council and handles the background work. All of them are special just as they are. 

3. Empowering female friendships

It’s a rare treat to see female friendships on shows. Especially where they complement each other and call on their shortcomings. 

Stacy is made to feel completely normal when she struggles with shame from her illness.  Mary-Anne finds encouragement whenever she falls short at her confidence. Kristy is made to listen when sometimes she is stubborn. The girls celebrate each other’s happiness and offer hands in their endeavors.

4. Rich inner worlds and journeys

Best reason- the characters have strong inner worlds, where they are receptive to learnings.

Expressing your emotions healthily, being free in your relationship, accepting the sudden change in your world, facing the loss of a beloved family member, enjoying your passion than trying to achieve fame.. and so on
